The Angolan Health Research Center (ABC), shortly designated as "CISA", was promoted and created in 2007, based on a partnership between the Angolan Ministry of Health, the Bengo Provincial Government and the Portuguese Cooperation (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and Camões - Institute of Language Cooperation).
The CISA is a Center for Scientific Research Technological Development and Innovation, supervised by the Ministry of Health and member of the National Institute of Health Research (INIS), as a regional research center.
Headquartered in Caxito, near the provincial hospital of Bengo, CISA pursues the following objectives:
• Promote health research taking into account the needs and priorities of the country in the field of health sciences;
• Support the training of national human resources in this area, and improve the quality of health care;
• Promote and support postgraduate training of national professionals through scientific activities in Health.
The CISA carries out clinical, epidemiological, laboratorial and health determinants research, in turn based on 3 surveillance systems that collect highlighting whether the platform Surveillance System health and demographic indicators (Demographic Surveillance System), indicators of pediatric morbidity (Morbidity Surveillance System) and main causes of death (Verbal Autopsy System) in the CISA study area.
